Allyson Smith

Allyson Smith

Allyson Smith has been tickling Canada's comedy scene from the moment she put down the chalk brush and picked up a mic. With her sassy blend of in-your-face stand-up and hilariously insightful commentary, playing to packed rooms is just another day at the office for this former high-school teacher, whose credits include CTV's Comedy Now, MuchMusic's Video on Trial, CBC's The Debaters, the prestigious Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and just about everywhere in between.
Today, the "embarrassingly varied" teacher-cum-comic is a sought-after fan favourite, headlining shows from coast to coast and popping up in living rooms wherever there's a cable signal\u2026often uninvited but always charming (*wink*).
Despite emerging as one of Canada's rising stand-up stars, Allyson has remained true to her talent show roots. Her down-to-earth nature and girl-next-door approachability have earned her the respect and friendship of fans and fellow comics alike. When she isn't smiling in the spotlight, you'll find her growing Canadian comedy from behind the scenes, hosting open mic nights, yammering with virgins or sniffing out dicey rooms that could use a few laughs.
Now, who's ready for detention?

Jo-Anna Downey

Jo-Anna Downey

Look out! Jo-Anna Downey is a fearless, frank and sassy performer. This lady lives bravely - "doing it for the story" - and according to the Toronto Star, is a "storyteller par excellence... one of the most engaging women on the Toronto comedy scene". Her interactive, irreverent style and quick wit will shock and delight.
Known as "Mama" to all, only brave (and foolish!) drag queens would dare to compete for her crown as the Queen of the Toronto Open Mic scene - she has been hosting two successful and beloved weekly stand-up comedy shows for nearly 15 years. She's even been voted by the people of Toronto as their favourite stand-up comic in NOW Magazine and her lovely face graced its cover!
Jo-Anna's credits include tours across Canada, Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal and Toronto, appearances on CBC, the Comedy Network, the Discovery Channel and CTV's comedy special Women of the Night (which earned a 2002 Gemini nomination). She's also a regular radio program panelist (Chick Chat with John Oakley, CBC's The Debaters).
Proceeds go to support Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa.
